Today, October 24th, is United Nations Day.

According to UN Secretary-General António Guterres: “United Nations Day highlights the enduring ideals of the Charter, which entered into force on this date 74 years ago. Amid stormy global seas, the Charter remains our shared moral anchor.”

UN Day marks the anniversary of the day that the UN Charter entered into force, in 1945 and the United Nations officially came into being.

It is 74 years since then. And to mark the 75th anniversary next year, Secretary-General António Guterres has announced that commemorations will include a “global conversation” promoting global cooperation and helping to build the brighter future that we all want.

Starting in January 2020, the United Nations will hold a series of dialogues around the world. These conversations will take place across borders, sectors and generations. The aim will be to learn from the experiences of people across the world in order to spark ideas on how we can build a better world despite the many challenges we face.
